Feeling lost?

2011 seems to be the year of my quarter life crisis… How long can one go on being a creative urchin with not a penny to your name? How long can one keep a sane head space when there is no routine or consistency whatsoever? How do you apply your skills to something may benefit your future when your skills are mainly airy-fairy creative bollocks?

I need to search my soul but it’s too fucking hard in a city like this.

Oh the road.. the road is so filled with potholes.

Battle Lines- The new Voodoo Hussy song which will be debuted at London Pride

Verse

Watch the penny drop

You again forget me

I know I’m not the first thing on your mind (and that’s fine)

Throw down your arms

At least be honest

Let me see I’ve wasted all this time (on you)

Chorus

If this is love, if this is love,

If this is love, if this is love, I’ve had enough

This battle’s done, this war is won

If this is love, lay down your gun, returns the bombs,

I’ve had enough

Verse

You say you’ll come at eight,

It’s twelve, I’m waiting,

It seems you’ve always better things to do, (but with who?)

What, am I your bitch?

Your fucking puppet,

You’ve blown apart the heart I saved for you (true)

The early lyrics of a new Voodoo Hussy song

Tolerances of the Human Face

I could beat my heart right out of my chest,

You can have my love and desecrate the rest

For these open hands are clutching at straws

And this open wound absorbs the salt

Chorus

This silent cry

Lock the door, don my public face

For I have become intolerably tolerant

And I’m not sure what to do with this

Throw out the rest

I could hope to hell this is a passing phase

If I lose my mind, some clarity might stay

For these plastic eyes, are struggling to see

And this empty soul will get the best of me.

The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters

”TSORPM” is a song we wrote in 2008…

I was lyrically inspired by a lecture I attended at University (Ba/Bsc in Anthropology at Goldsmiths dahhhhling) on the painting ”El sueno de la razon produce monstruos” by Francisco Goyet.

I don’t know quite what the fuck that painting has to do with Anthropology but I am that man, and sometimes I can feel those owls and bats around my head.

Copyright Your Person… And Save the Rest for Later

What’s a little loss to me?

What’s a quicker death to me?

I’ve been dying since the wall came down

I don’t want to hear you out

I don’t want to make a sound

A noisy exit seems so obvious.

Listen close and something stirs

I will never speak a word

The carefree murder of a hollow soul

Not the sum of what you see

None of this means shit to me

A quiet spirit in a crumbling world

4 notes

Don’t judge me from above,

The years you have on me are meaningless,

You’ve no idea where I’ve been,

No idea what I’ve done

And no idea who I’ve been,

My old friends wouldn’t even recognise me,

My family have disowned me,

I am a sleepwalking pariah,

And as the years fly by,

I move further away from that person I thought I was,

And have had to meet and greet this new one,

Just because you say you are perfect, does not mean you are,

At least I’m fully aware of my darkness,

You lay your lighter touch on me,

And I feel nothing.

As soon as I find the CD, I’ll put up some unheard 2007 tracks but until that point, I’ll have to go with the last of the 2009 demo.

This is Death Knell, based on a poem I wrote combined with a little influence from the epic legend and myth of the great blues guitarist Robert Johnson.

Unknown Voodoo Hussy fact: Our very first bassist was called James… yes, he was a boy and no, he didn’t appear in any promotional material.

Ok, another blast from the past…also 2009. ”This Could Be Love” is a repetitive swinger of a song which was supposed to have a video with us playing at a 50’s dance with side parted hair and slick suits. Owing to us breaking up, this, like a lot of things, didn’t happen.

I had an awful sore throat on the day of recording which you can kind of hear in the chorus and those men you hear chanting sporadically throughout the song? That’s us… I don’t know why we sound so macho.

Interesting fact about Voodoo Hussy… we were nearly signed to a major label but after they asked us to start wearing girls clothes and to sing about boys rather than girls we decided that probably wasn’t going to work.

Another demo, coming tomorrow.

As we in Voodoo Hussy move onto the next stage of our career, I have been resminiscing on old times in the band… so, every day for the next five days, I will be putting up a a demo from different eras of VH… Today we start with, a track called ”Hold It Down Boy”… this was just after Naj left the band in 2009 and Pyro took over bass. It was a bizarre time where we experimented a little, dabbling in prog rock and blues. A very bizarre time indeed. We went on indefinite hiatus (which turned out to not be so indefinite) about a month after this was recorded. Not sure if you guys’ll like it or not but thought you may be interested to hear it c[:D

This is the tale of a nice boy with a slut for a girlfriend and a conversation that occurs between them… Watch out for the trippy prog section in the middle… not quite sure where we were going with this tune… haha.

Join me tomorrow for old demo and story part 2.
